We are a leading multi-channel specialty retailer of vitamins, minerals, herbs, supplements, sports nutrition and other health and wellness products (VMS). We are the second largest in retail sales and one of the fastest growing national VMS specialty retailers. Our broad product offering enables us to provide our target customers with a selection of products not readily available at other specialty VMS retailers or mass merchants, such as drugstore chains and supermarkets.
We have more than doubled our net sales from Fiscal 2005 to $950.9 million in Fiscal 2012 and have achieved positive comparable store sales for 19 consecutive years (prior to which we did not track comparable store sales).
We sell our products through two business segments: retail and direct. In our retail segment, we have opened a total of 318 new stores from the beginning of Fiscal 2006 through Fiscal 2012. At year-end 2012, we operated 579 stores located in 43 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Canada, located in high-traffic regional retail centers. We now have more than 600 stores. In February 2013 we announced the acquisition of Super Supplements, a 31 store chain headquartered in the Pacific Northwest.
In our direct segment, we sell our products directly to consumers through our website, primarily www.vitaminshoppe.com, and our catalog.
In addition to offering 400 national brand products, the Vitamin Shoppe also exclusively carries products under The Vitamin Shoppe, BodyTech, True Athlete and MyTrition brands.
